Copa do Brasil 2023: third phase duels and where to watch!

A Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) defined the duels for the third phase of the 2023 Copa do Brasil. It is the 35th edition of the competition that started on February 21st and ends on September 23rd, being one of the most anticipated championships by national football lovers.

The Copa do Brasil is a football competition held annually since 1989. One of the main competitions on the Brazilian football calendar and brings together teams from all regions of the country. It is divided into pots and its duels are defined by draw.

Brazil Cup 2023

The format of the Copa do Brasil has undergone some changes over the years but, currently, it is played in seven phases, with the participation of 91 clubs from all divisions of Brazilian football. According to the CBF Ranking, the participating teams were divided into two different pots. Are they: 

  • Pot 1 is made up of the 16 teams with the best classification in the ranking: Flamengo, Palmeiras, Athletico-PR, Atlético-MG, São Paulo, Fluminense, Fortaleza, Corinthians, Santos, Internacional, América-MG, Bahia, Botafogo, Cruzeiro, Grêmio and Coritiba. 
  • Pot 2 is made up of the other participating teams, which are: CRB, CSA, Náutico, Remo, Tombense, Brasil de Pelotas, Paysandu, Ituano, Botafogo-SP, Volta Redonda, Ypiranga-RS, Nova Iguaçu, Maringá, Águia de Marabá-PA, Sport and ABC.

The third phase of the competition will take place in two games, with the field teams decided by draw. The first games begin on April 12th, and the return games begin on April 26th. Check out how they were defined:

Goals scored as a visitor will not be used as a tiebreaker. If the goal difference is equal after both games, the decision will be made through a penalty shootout. It is worth remembering that this rule is different from other phases of the competition, where goals scored away from home are used as a tiebreaker.

Where to watch the Copa do Brasil games?

Just as technology has changed many areas of consumption, so too has programming and football broadcasts, where viewers can decide how they want to follow, even when they are not at home.

Football fans who want to watch the Copa do Brasil games have three options on television: watch open TV on Globo, pay channels such as SporTV and Premiere, or subscribe to streaming services such as GloboPlay or Amazon Prime Video. Check out the details below.

Globe

Rede Globo is the holder of the broadcasting rights, with final validation by the CBF. It will always broadcast the matches on Wednesdays, starting from the third phase, when the big teams enter. It's free and you can watch it anywhere in Brazil on television.

The channel's main narrators will be selected, such as Luís Roberto, Cléber Machado and Rogério Corrêa, as well as comments according to each confrontation. The GloboPlay streaming service is available as the first option for fans at the Copa do Brasil, also with a paid option that gives more access permissions.

SportTV

Available only on pay TV operators or Globoplay streaming. Shows up to three games per phase in the Copa do Brasil at different times of the week. The broadcaster is responsible for the championship's broadcast rights, so fans will certainly have a good experience.

Gustavo Villani, Everaldo Marques, Luiz Carlos Jr and Milton Leite will be the narrators in charge. The SporTV and SporTV2 channels will show the Copa do Brasil games live throughout Brazil.

Premiere

Available on pay TV operators and on Globoplay streaming, it is a pay-per-view service that shows most of the matches in the Copa do Brasil, especially those that are not broadcast on Globo's conventional channel.

 Fans can access Premiere broadcasts via television or mobile devices, easily through the channel's own app, with all programming and features included in the contracted package.

Amazon Prime Video

Amazon's streaming service shows up to three matches per round in the Copa do Brasil for all of Brazil. Prime Video also only works for platform subscribers. For R$14.90 per month or R$119 per year, fans have access to a program of films, series, documentaries and Copa do Brasil games to watch as they wish.

The Amazon Prime team of narrators includes Rômulo Mendonça, Marcelo Gomes, Estevan Ciccone and Roby Porto. There will be 54 games throughout the competition, 40 of which will be exclusive here. Therefore, it is worth considering this service.
